Paranoid Abstraction Heavy Shape City Movie, 2011

HD video, 5 mins

In Uzumaki (2000), inhabitants of a village become obsessed with spirals, seeing them everywhere in the landscape and eventually transforming into spiral-shapes themselves. In the video for Spankrock's DTF DADT (2011) a triangle, square and circle are drawn from within the screen but become alive and infect the action, ruining the party for everyone.

This led me to think:

1. Paranoid abstraction becomes real
2. Shapes are heavier and more terrifying than your drawings of them.
3. In cinematic shape-transfiguration, lines between life, the abstract ideal figure and material manifestation get mixed up.
4. This is a crazy mythic confusion.

I thought about these things while I stared at the screen. This work is an mini dystopian sci-fi to emerge as a result, set between a deserted city and a paranoid mind.
